Paper Abstract:      In this paper we present a forthcoming research project. The purpose of the study is to acquire an understanding of the customers’ planning and purchasing process of grocery products. We will examine this from the perspective of location and time. In this paper the central concepts of planning and purchasing are discussed and related to the impact of location and time on the processes. The paper presents several preliminary research questions which are forming the base for planning and structuring the project. We also present a preliminary two-step methodological approach where we start with a qualitative pilot study and based on these results we continue with a quantitative survey. Apart from the actual purpose of the study we anticipate that the results of the study will be used in developing an electronic platform for planning and purchasing grocery products.
